"State Government plans for a borefield at Kangaloon will destroy the last likely habitat of the rare Wingecarribee Leek Orchid [Prasophyllum fuscum R.Br. = Prasophyllum uroglossum], according to Robertson naturalist Denis Wilson.
Listed as endangered in NSW and nationally, the Wingecarribee Leek Orchid's only known habitat is the Wingecarribee Swamp. But Mr Wilson said following the collapse of the Wingecarribee Swamp in 1998, the most likely place for the orchid to be found is at Stockyard Swamp. The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) has estimated that the Kangaloon borefield will lower the water table in a 2km radius of any of the 60 proposed bores, an area, which includes Stockyard Swamp and the Endangered Ecological Community of Butler's Swamp." article URL : http://bowral.yourguide.com.au/detail.asp?class=news&subclass=general&story_id=545940&category=general&m=1&y=2007 see also : http://threatenedspecies.environment.nsw.gov.au/tsprofile/profile_data.aspx?id=10669&cma=Hawkesbury/Nepean *********** Regards, VB _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
