You are so right! No-one with any orchid savvy wastes time with the AOS Forum
any more. When I spoke at an area orchid society recently and predicted many
more closures of established orchid nurseries, I was taken to task by several
of the members. I said it will continue month by month with no obvious
solution. In less than two months we now hear that Miller's Tropicals are
closing down in Homestead. This was a young, energetic nursery that traveled to
distant shows and brought a refreshing range of unusual species and primary
hybrids to the orchid hobbyists.
I will make a $100 bet with anyone who is interested that AOS membership will
drop below 15,000 before the end of this decade. Several wealthy
behind-the-scenes figures have been pushing recent unwise decisions and they
have no interest in the rank and file membership nor the staff who try to serve
them. But come the WOC next January and they will be crowding each other off
center stage!
