I just responded to the annual renewal notice, in the negative. With the
notice was a request for contribututions. I explained that I did not feel like
the AOS deserved any donations; a couple of years ago, i engaged in a letter
exchange with Lee Cooke. My wife and I wanted to bequeath our Orchid Antiques
collection to the AOS, with no strings attached and w/out even deductiong it
from the taxes on our estate. In 1989, the late Meritt huntington said that our
collection was the largest HE HAD EVER SEEN. It consists of anything orchids-
even listing the categories would take more than a page. Lee seemed very
enthused, backed out of a planned visit, (we live max 3hrs drive from the AOS)
apologized nicely- in short, after wasting more time and emails w/him, we wrote
to the AOS that we woluld still do it, but we wanted nothing to do w/Lee.

Later on, we had a nice visit w/Mr. Moore who admired the collection.

We still feel that the way Lee is allowed to behave will drag the AOS down at a
neck breaking speed.
We will find a more worthy organisation to whom we will donate.
