The orchid show, running now through April 5, at the New York Botanical Garden in New York City (http://www.nybg.org/index.php) will be followed by a smaller, but still noteworthy exhibit, at Rockefeller Center, April 18-22 (http://www.gnyos.org/NYIOS/nyios.htm) .
Both are highly recommend for anyone who lives near, or plans to visit, New York City this spring. For newcomers from out of town, the New York Botanical Garden represents a bit of trek from Manhattan. It's in the Bronx. Subway travel there is not difficult; taxis are most convenient but relatively expensive. Check the web site for directions. The NYBG Orchid Show also overlaps with the Macy's flower show which actually covers the whole first floor of the store, is at the center of Manhattan and is quite accessible to visitors who lack cars and don't want to brave a subway or taxi ride. (Sounds strange being in the store, I know, but it's actually quite a lovely display; you'll catch an occasional orchid at the Macy's show but, for the most part, it's spring blossoms.) (http://www.fds.com/pressroom/macys/macyseast/media_kits.asp?strAction=ShowI tem&itemid=3287&pr=1) The event at Rock Center, like the display at NYBG is all orchids. Many will be for sale and it's at one of the great hubs in Manhattan--easily accessible, safe streets, majestic buildings and lots of restaurants and shopping for those into that sort of thing. I've been to both shows in the past. They are truly wonderful, highly recommended, and the only major orchid shows I know in New York City. _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
