"the Sandhills Orchid Society...

the Annual Growers Day...
each year in conjunction with Fayetteville Technical Community College.
This year the event is scheduled for April 14.

...
will be held at the FTCC Horticultural Education Center at the Cape Fear
Botanical Garden...

The March meeting drew 35 members; there were about 60 orchids in full
bloom, a regular feature of the meetings.
...
Guest speaker John Stanton... owner of The Orchid Trail in Morrisville...
showed a slide show of his travels in Costa Rica and the flora... he
photographed there.
He visited the preserves and research foundations that study
reforestation... plant growth... and other environmental concerns.

In Costa Rica today, he said, there are virtually no orchids left in the
wild [true ?].
All the plants [I doubt it...] have been collected by local residents and
re-established in their gardens.
The government and research facilities are protecting and cultivating
native species so they may be returned to their natural habitat without
hybrids ["re-introducing" hybrids, really ?] or improved varieties.
...
The society meets... the Tuesday after the second Monday of each month."
