"Woodsprite Orchids...

Seven years ago, Morin turned his personal orchid collection of 2,000 into
a business that now offers over 12,000 plants in 900 different varieties
[species, hybrids...]

"When I was 11 years old, I saw one blooming for the first time in a
greenhouse where I was working for 50 cents an hour," Morin, now 60, said.
"I wasn't able to actually buy them until I was 15 because they were
horribly expensive back then. Plants started at $45 and on up. And when
you're making 50 cents an hour... you don't buy orchids."
...
Morin said. "You don't want to fuss with orchids. ... They just want
consistency. Consistency of care."

Often the biggest challenge in keeping orchids is having patience, said
Morin. Each plant blooms and grows in different ways, meaning orchids are
never predictable. They are slow growers. A typical orchid is around 5
years old before it blooms for the first time. Afterward, some go through a
long "ugly ducking phase" before they bloom again, said Morin.
...
"I don't sell orchids," Morin said. "I show orchids. The orchids sell
themselves. The orchids cast their own spell." "
