Hi all
I have added close to 30 Lepanthes species new to IOSPE from Colombia. Check
them out on the "L" page. Anyone who has any ideas as to what species they may
be please contact me offlist. Please copy the number as well as the descriptive
line so we can ID the right one. Please include any references that may apply.
I will have photos of my recent Colombia trip up soon which will include many
upclose condor photos. The Colombian park service employees were nice enough to
put viscera out to bring them down close so we could photograph them. The giant
birds were less than 30 feet away from us and it was incredible to watch them
pick away at their food.
It was interesting and damn cold to spend the 2 days at 12,000' [3900 m],
encounterring hundreds of miniature cold growing orchids in the
Pleurothallidinae at every turn. We were in the Paramo the entire time and the
sun only made one short-lived early morning appearance. The rest of the time we
were inside the cloud, getting wet and cold. The average temperature in the day
was about 45 degrees and at night about 35. We were wet the entire time as just
walking around got you wet even though it was not raining directly most of the
time.
I will have the trip photos worked out soon!
Happy growing!
Jay
