Kenneth, I have been a loyal reader of the OGD for several years, although I have posted less than a handful of comments. I appreciate the simplicity of the setup as it now exists. I freelists makes it possible to continue in the manner, I hope you will go in that direction.
I belong to several lists/groups related to various interests and I am the co-owner of [EMAIL PROTECTED], so I am able to provide some insight into the Yahoo setup. Personally, I do not find the ads distracting and there are a lot of features that provide functionality and ease of use and moderation. The major issue I would have with a transfer to Yahoo or a similar service is the level of experience of the members they attract. How many times do the OGD members want to answer the question, "My blooms have all fallen off, should I cut the stem?" This is routine on my Yahoo list - and I don't mind, believing that the list serves newcomers well. But, the OGD is in an entirely different class - it is where more experienced and dedicated orchidists share and learn. I am also involved with lists that run on the forum model. I prefer email because the forum requires that I visit the web page to participate. Email is far more convenient. My two cents worth, Maureen Pulignano Atlanta, GA USA www.deefalt.com Does anybody else have suggestions about the future of the OGD ? Does anybody have experience using freelists ? Do you still like the OGD to be email based ? Should I have dropped the "to be email based" in the previous question ? ;-) kind regards, Kenneth OGD listowner. _______________________________________________ the OrchidGuide Digest (OGD) [email protected] http://orchidguide.com/mailman/listinfo/orchids_orchidguide.com
