Thanks to Terry Glancy for his timely reminder in OGD V9 #302. He is quite correct when he states that AnTec Labs possess a few legally-acquired Vietnamese orchids. Sometime around the turn of the millenium, US Customs confiscated seven specimens of Paphiopedilum vietnamense from a person who was attempting to smuggle them into the country. The plants were sent to a U.S. Botanical Garden, and last I heard they were still there, serving a life sentence at the hospitality of the US Gov.
Bob Wellenstein of Antec Laboratories was asked to help propagate these plants, and subsequently offered flasks (both the species and hybrids) on the market. These are plants of illegal origin which have been legitimized by the process they've been through. Terry is sensible to maintain that record of legitimacy by conserving the AnTec clonal numbers and reciepts. There's invariably an exception to the rule.
