Hi all,
I am proud to announce that The Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia
[www.orchidspecies.com] has been given permission to use all the orchid species
photos of Bart Wursten and his simply amazing Flora of Zimbabwe website.
http://www.zimbabweflora.co.zw/
Bart has hundreds of top notch in situ photos of orchids as well as most every
other genera of plant that is found in Zimbabwe. If you have not rummaged
around in his site it is time that you have. What makes his site great is the
amount of photos of plants in their natural habitat and the quality of those
shots. I can attest that in situ orchid photography is the toughest of all to
perfect as the orchid does not always cooperate and grow in an easily
accessible location and that location may not offer the best lighting or angle
to optimize a great shot.
Africa is the continent that has had the least representation on IOSPE in the
past but with Bart's photos additions it is well along to being much more
complete.
I was able to obtain close to 75 new species photos from Bart and his site. Of
those 4 new genera have been added, many terrestrials which are rarely seen let
alone photographed.
So check out the in situ photo of Platycoryne pervillei to see an example of
Bart's fabulous photography.
New genera include, Pteroglossaspis, Schizochilus; Schwartzkopffia [a
saprophytic super beauty] and Ypsilopus.
With the addition of Bart's fabulous photos IOSPE now has 7284 species in 689
genera!
Happy Growing To Yo All!!!!
Jay Pfahl
