For some reason I do not seem to have received the Digest with my message in
but I am thankful to David, Jay and Mario for their replies. I must stress
that I was in no way critical of Jay's or any other site and the photos
illustrated. I find sites like this a great boon. Whilst I have the
attention of Mario, David and Jay I would like to ask if my plant and
Pieter's plant is correctly Maxillaria meleagris then what is the true
identity of the plant illustrated in Jay's webiste (I think - sorry Jay if I
am wrong!) as Maxillaria meleagris. I have labelled my plant that looks like
this as Maxillaria cucullata. How far wrong am I? Another is the plant
labelled as Maxillaria phoenicanthera and what does a true Mxillaria
punctostriata from Costa Rica look like?
Thanks guys for your much appreciated help. In South Africa we do not have
experts or facilities to help us identify species and so the maxim/proverb
"Onder die blindes, is die een oog koning" (for those who do not understand
Amongst the blind people, the partially sighted (die een oog = the person
with one eye) is king) is very true. No offence meant to blind peopel
Keep well and kind regards
Mike
