"Pacific Orchid Exposition, presented by San Francisco Orchid Society...
Over 150,000 orchids [plants or flowers ?] were displayed in the “Orchids
Gone Wild” exhibit...

“We have 700 at home, and it’s not enough,” said Sung Lee... in Castro
Valley...
“This is a hobby gone too far.”...
“I’ve been growing for almost 20 years, and I want to contribute to the
conservation effort. A lot of orchids are disappearing in nature, but when
we join an orchid society, and these societies exist in each region here,
they teach us to grow, conserve, and share.”

This particular aspect of orchid society activitiessharing seems very
important to Yvonne [Lee], who says she can ask all kinds of questions and
receive friendly answers from her fellow growers, and she returns the favor
when she has a chance.

“People who love orchids are open and kind [well, most of them / smile...].
They don’t keep secrets from each other,” she said.
...
With about 25 thousand natural species of orchids and ten times more
hybrids [so many ?] created by growers, it’s a hard task to collect “the
best.” "
