"lost... Elizabeth Blackadder prints... unearthed...
The rare portfolio is part of Blackadder's... Orchid series dating from 1991...

The rediscovered artworks will be on display and available for purchase at
the Glasgow Art Fair...

The discovery was made at Glasgow Print Studios, where the artist has
printed for 20 years...

said John McKechnie, director of the studio. "... They are very sought
after works... Blackadder is one of... Scotland's blue-chip artists."
...
Born in Falkirk in 1931, she studied and then taught at Edinburgh College
of Art, before becoming the first woman elected to both the Royal Scottish
Academy and Royal Academy. Her work features at the Scottish National
Gallery of Modern Art and the Tate in London...

Blackadder said she was glad prints from the Orchid series had been
rediscovered but revealed the flower initially left her uninspired...
"... orchids had never been my favourite flower," she said. "I'd always
thought of them as too exotic and expensive. It was when the botanist at
the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh talked to students and told us about them
that I realised orchids are probably the biggest family of flowers in the
world... I then became thoroughly fascinated with the idea of orchids."
...
Trained in painting and drawing, she hadn't printed until McKechnie invited
her and her husband John Huston, also a painter, to his studio 20 years ago.
she said. "... I find it interesting to move to different media..." "
