"The 10th Kimilsungia orchid festival... in Pyongyang, capital of the 
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)... last for eight days.

On display... many Kimilsungia orchids presented by over 80 units including 
ministries, national agencies, military organs, civilians and students, 
Chongryon (General Association of Korean Residents in Japan), overseas 
Koreans and foreign embassies.

The festival has been held in April every year since 1999 to mark the 
birthday of the country's founding father Kim Il Sung.

The Kimilsungia is a hybrid cultivar... and is one of the two national 
flowers of DPRK.
It is a relatively new variety... bred by an Indonesian botanist.
Indonesian President Sukarno named the plant "Kimilsungia" in 1965 when Kim 
Il Sung visited the country."
