Orchid Nurseries in Santa Barbara are all fine and open for business. The huge fire (8500 acres now) is in the foothills and has not consumed any homes yet. It is burning a lot of area in the Los Padres Forest that has not burned in 50 years, and largely unaccessable. They are dropping from the sky to beat the perimeters back, and the crews into the area are still growing in numbers to build fire breaks. *The Santa Barbara Orchid Fair *is scheduled to go on as planned, but of course, if the fire should change in scope things could change for the fair, but only in so far as perhaps having to change to a different location close by the fairgrounds. All the firemen and their trucks are at the showgrounds at present. But as the fire gets more controlled, more crews will leave. Check Cal-Orchid's website and of course, Santa Barbara Orchid Estate's website for updates on Tues. or Wednesday. By then the final plan will be guaranteed.
