"A Nature reserve... home to a host of orchids following the success of a
seed-spreading project.
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust harvested wildflower seeds from a nearby
meadow three years ago and transferred them to a one acre plot in its
Thorswood reserve, near Swinscoe, in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

The process, known as 'green hay strewing', has resulted in the meadow
blooming with common spotted orchids...
making it a haven for meadow brown butterflies.

The common spotted orchid was once quite common and widespread, but is now
more localised due to intensive agriculture and development. It forms
attractive drifts of pink spikes, and has pale pink, purple or white
flowers, lined or dotted with crimson or purple."
