"This year's slow summer season has delayed the flowering of western
prairie fringed orchids, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources (DNR), and has pushed back the annual orchid count.

The orchids would normally begin their show in northwestern Minnesota
prairies just after the Fourth of July. ... this year... enthusiasts
shouldn't expect to see the knee-high white spikes of flowers until
sometime in mid-July.

Because of the late season, the annual DNR orchid counts in Polk,
Pennington, and Kittson counties are being delayed until July 12 through 15."
