I have heated blades in various ways to 'sterilize' them. I had 'heard' that 10, some say 15 seconds in a flame and then in the hotter tip of the flame and then heated til it glows. It would be nice to know scientifically at what temp all virus is killed. It makes sense that glowing red should do the trick. Then again it is not just the tip or cutting edge but any surface that comes in contact with the orchid... the sides of the blade or holder that has the potential to transfer virus... right? So I just reach for a new single edge razor blade unwrap it and when done, drop it in the Pepsi (safety) can so I won't inadvertently reuse it or cut myself... a lot of peace of mind that way for less than a nickel.
