I think the issues are different. The Patrick Rock case has little to do with the policy. Of course the man is innocent until proven guilty, but if the allegations are true we would all agree he is a criminal. I oppose the porn filters for many reasons including technical effectiveness as well as general principles of freedom. But I don't think this case strengthens my position at all: no one, not even the supporters of the filters, are claiming they are anything to do with child pornography. On the other hand, the Mark Harper case is very different. That case illustrates that it is completely unreasonable that we all should be required, in our normal social and business lives, to become immigration enforcers. It illustrates how unreasonable the policy is: Harper did nothing different than what most of us would do but fell foul of the policy he was promoting.
