I have not ever used tracing paper, but you may want to give it a go
using watercolors. I also use food coloring diluted with water – make enough
to cover the paper as it is very difficult to exactly blend colors again. Apply
sparingly and evenly -
do not allow any puddling of the paint to occur.
On major wrinkles when adding paper – A “glue stick” which adds virtually no
thickness
has worked very well for me. Avery brand is my preference.
Another way that has worked well without wrinkles - but adds thickness - lay
together on top of a saran wrap (at least 3” larger than your paper) covered
hard surface, the two dry papers. Using a sponge roller, working from the
middle of the paper to the edges (lift roller and start each pass from the
middle of the paper), apply water diluted white school glue (1:1). Pick up the
whole enchilada (saran and papers) and hang with spring style clothes pins
until almost dry. Pull the saran wrap away from the paper. Allow paper to
complete drying.
Hope that helps a bit.
