I like the concept of giving shape and volume to models just by folding and without the need for CMC or foil, so I wanted to bring up the topic of dry tension in case anyone wants to discuss it.
I’ve tried to define dry tension, but I’m still not satisfied with my definition which is basically what I just wrote about what I like. The way to accomplish it, as I’ve seen it, is mostly by having two layers of paper of the same size, one on top of the other and then folding one of them in some way that it occupies less area than the other. Being connected to the first layer, the second one has to accommodate to the new shape of its partner and so it becomes 3 d. There is also a concept that bugs me, does any box from a single sheet have dry tension? Great origamists that have used it are Philip Shen and Joseph Wu (among others), so if you feel like discussing them, go ahead. -- Jorge Jaramillo
