Hello. The exhibition was on 2011. I was there, but the only place in the Museum where you are not able to take photos was that. The historical napkin folding was part of a big display about the banquets in the 1780s in Europe.
Because of that this book was published: The Beauty of the Fold: A Conversation with Joan Sallas edited by Charlotte Bimbaum This second book in the ground-breaking On the Table series about the culture of gastronomy as artistic expression - edited by Charlotte Birnbaum - delves into the art of napkin folding. It features German master Joan Sallas, whose folded napkins graced the Metropolitan Museum's exhibit of 1780 Viennese royal table silver. (Watch him fold a ''water lily'' napkin on YouTube.) Birnbaum interviews Sallas on the history of napkin folding, stretching back to the Renaissance and Baroque, and contributes a short essay on the art's complex history; the remainder of the book is an illustrated catalog of Sallas's ornate folding techniques. The last part of the book has photos of samples of the most common shapes for the napkin folds. It is a very short summary of the book "Gefaltete Schönheit" by Joan Sallas (in German).
