Thanks Mark! That is the picture I was thinking of and I had it conflate with another - The Infanta Margarita Teresa Wearing a Pink Dress, by Diego Velazquez. Not EVEN close to The Merrymakers - isn't it funny what memory is like?
Thanks to Michael for the links to the other two paintings. I don't remember seeing either in person. In the first, the baby Jesus is holding a real little bird in his hand, which kind of makes me cringe knowing what small children do with things in their hands . .. usually tasting it is the first thing and throwing it the second.
