No, that's not quite it. What I am trying to tell the engine is "I'm
still sending your data, tell me whether I should continue".

I see. But I see no way how the engine could possibly take that decision from you.

It has requested from you that you send out the message and receive the answer, and is only interested in either success or failure of that. It is entirely the apps/the transport's decision how to accomplish the task including retries and other failure recoveries, and giving up when the task cannot be accomplished.

So my bottom line is - ne need to call the engine in between.
