Bernard, This is partly due to some assumptions in C3 for multi cluster installs. That is the default, and we don't have override with ENV setting. Also, '/opt' is where we typically install OSCAR software, AFAIK.

I can understand why you might want to have multiple versions of LAM/MPI, but I'd think you would always want the latest and greatest c3 tools.
