Hi, just to relate some divergences regarding dependences problem between yum and urpm (Mandriva):
while running Step 3, I got the following output (verbose mode):
-----------------------------------------
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: libgfortran = 4.0.1-5mdk for package: gcc-gfortran
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: libgfortran = 4.0.1-5mdk is needed by package
gcc-gfortran
--> Successfully installed server non-core RPMs
--> Marking installed bit in ODA for server non-core RPMS
--> Done marking installed bits in ODA
-------------------------------------------
This shows two problems: the major one is that the installation of the server non-core
packages is being considered "successfull". The other problem is that
gcc-gfortran is not being installed due to a missing dependency (libgfortran).

If I try urpmi:
----------------------------------------------
# urpmi gcc-gfortran
To satisfy dependencies, the following 2 packages are going to be installed (6
MB):
gcc-gfortran-4.0.1-5mdk.i586
libgfortran0-4.0.1-5mdk.i586
Is this OK? (Y/n) y

installing gcc-gfortran-4.0.1-5mdk.i586.rpm libgfortran0-4.0.1-5mdk.i586.rpm
from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms
Preparing...                     #############################################
     1/2: libgfortran0          #############################################
     2/2: gcc-gfortran          #############################################
----------------------------------------------
urpmi finds the dependency. But if I check what rpm has to say:
----------------------------------------------
# rpm -qp --provides libgfortran0-4.0.1-5mdk.i586.rpm
libgfortran = 4.0.1
libgfortran4.0 = 4.0.1-5mdk
libgfortran.so.0
libgfortran0 = 4.0.1-5mdk
----------------------------------------------
You can see that I don't explicitly have *libgfortran = 4.0.1-5mdk* (although I
have libgfortran = 4.0.1 and libgfortran0 = 4.0.1-5mdk).

I don't know how urpm do to "match" the dependency, once the "exact" dependency is not
"covered" by the package.
As this have happened with only one package (until now) I wonder with one can
rebuild the package and fix the mis-match.

Thanks,
