Title: [Oscar-devel] Oscar 5.0 (FC5) install issues
Hi Brad:

1) Did it say something like DISK=0?  If so, then that means the SystemImager kernel could not detect your hardware.  But before we jump to conclusions, perhaps you can post more verbose messages from the failed imaging attempt.  The virtual console (from "Monitor Cluster Deployment") should provide you with some additional info, but best bet is from the console of the node being imaged...

Geoffroy has already answered you regarding the partition stuff - you probably want to tweak the swap partition size though.

2) If you create an image with the same name, the code _should_ know that and ask if you want to overwrite it.  If that doesn't work then there's a bug, please file it here:

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/newticket

To delete an image, see here:

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/DeleteImage

3) The Delete OSCAR Clients button got moved to the "Management" interface, see:

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/OscarWizard

But I have gotten enough request that I think I should put this button back in installation moede...  I just need to find a "good" place to put it!

4) If your network card doesn't support PXE, you have 2 options: either as Geoffroy suggested, build an autoinstallation CD, your second option is etherboot:

http://etherboot.sf.net/

BTW, we will be adding more documentation in the Wiki, so hopefully you won't feel as lost trying to get our development release working!

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: [Oscar-devel] Oscar 5.0 (FC5) install issues

[note: this is an edited version of another message that Bernard said he would forward to devel, but it didn't seem to show up...]

I'm trying to install Oscar 5.0 (FC5).

1. Can't make partitions

I got to the point where my node client PXE booted, and started running all the install stuff. But it errored at the disk partitioning stage, with some message such as PARTITION NOT FOUND or something like that.

My hard disk is properly installed. I had used the default scsi.disk in the installer -- I noticed it had partition lines like this:
sda1 /boot
sda5 swap
sda6 /

What is up with the 5 and 6??? Shouldn't that be 2 & 3???

2. Can't remake image

I thought I would try again, make my own sata.disk file (using sda1,2,3). I tried making the image using the same name, but got an error (so i used a new name). How could I just delete that image and make a new one?

3. Can't Delete Client

When I got to the AddClients, I ran into problems. I want to *recreate* the images for my first 2 clients, since I have not succesfully installed them. But there doesn't seem to be a way to delete clients that haven't been successfully installed yet. I tried resetting the parameters in the AddClients to the starting ones, but I just got an error msg when I pressed the button.

How do I delete the client images I haven't installed yet, and redefine them? (Note the instructions mention a "Delete client image" button on the wizard, but there is no such button -- maybe that is because the nodes never actually got installed?

4. Question about interfaces

I have two NICs in my nodes. Maybe this is too complicated??? The mobo nic is an Intel G lan on PCIE. I also added a Glan on the PCI slot -- the idea was that the mobo NIC on fast PCIE would be used exclusively for MPI, and the other NIC would be used for normal network stuff.

Some snags:

a. PXE is only available on the mobo nic
b. the PCI nic ends up being eth0, whereas the mobo nic ends up being eth1

It would seem "natural" in my plan to try to boot/install onto the PCI nic, but that doesn't have PXE.

Any tips or feedback on my approach??? Thanks!

regards,
