Title: Re: [Oscar-devel] Oscar 5.0 (FC5) install issues
Hi Brad:

SystemImager is used to image your nodes, and it doesn't use Fedora Core 5's kernel (it can, by using UYOK, see below), it uses its own kernel (2.6.16.5 kernel, with a specific modules list).  Anyways, it seems that the SystemImager kernel could not detect your hardware, so you'll have to look into using UseYourOwnKernel.  I have just documented it here:

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/SystemImager

Try that and see if it works.

Cheers,

Bernard

Hi Bernard,

> 1) Did it say something like  DISK=0?  If so, then that means the SystemImager kernel could not detect  your hardware.  But before we jump to conclusions, perhaps you can post  more verbose messages from the failed imaging attempt.  The virtual console  (from "Monitor Cluster Deployment") should provide you with some additional  info, but best bet is from the console of the node being imaged...

Yes, it said that. But I ran the first part of the FC5 install CD just to be sure everthing was detected, and it did detect my harddisk. One unusual thing though, is that FC5 said something like "Partition table on sda is unreadable" and asked if I wanted it recreated -- I don't recall seeing that before. But otherwise, sda is definitely there. (Note: I did not run the FC5 install procedure, i.e. I didn't actually install anything.)

I'm going to try it again -- I got the nodes deleted.

Ok, I tried again, and the same thing. Everything scrolls by so quickly, and the last thing that I see at the top of the screen is:
DISKS=0

>Geoffroy has already answered  you regarding the partition stuff - you probably want to tweak the swap  partition size though.

To delete an image, see  here:

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/DeleteImage

3)  The Delete OSCAR Clients button got moved to the "Management" interface,  see:

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/trac/oscar/wiki/OscarWizard

But I have gotten enough  request that I think I should put this button back in installation  moede...  I just need to find a "good" place to put it!

Yes!!! This was *extremely* confusing, especially since there was no reference to this management mode anywhere!

>4) If your network card  doesn't support PXE, you have 2 options: either as Geoffroy suggested, build an  autoinstallation CD, your second option is etherboot:

They can PXE boot.

BTW, we will be adding more  documentation in the Wiki, so hopefully you won't feel as lost trying to get our  development release working!

It's good to know about that Wiki! I'll try to read through it.
