On both fc4 and RHEL4 I have tried installing the vmware tools onto
some images and while the rpm installs, when I pop out of the VM
window it still shows the "VMWare tools not installed!" warning as it
did before I installed the rpm.  I noticed the source was also on the
CD but since the rpm didn't fail or anything, I figured I wouldn't get
much benefit from switching to the source...

I also didn't see any performance increase like I have when installing
the tools onto a windows VM which has always worked in the past
(though it was their non-free version).

Any thoughts?
