Yes for trunk it is better to use the newest version.
I currently do some testing and it looks like I missed to apply another
change I made to ganglia-gmetad (something with /sbin/chkconfig) and
loghost (something with /etc/sysconfig/syslog).

If I have new patches or any changes I'll send them to the list again.
