I really do not like the following lines:

It is very weird because this happens when the directories for the
different packages are not there (i.e.,
if /opt/oscar/packages/base, /opt/oscar/packages/c3, /opt/oscar/packages/sc3, 
and /opt/oscar/packages/sis do not exist).

I assume those directories exist, right?

BTW, you can try to cleanup corrupted images executing
'$(OSCAR_HOME)/scripts/oscar_image_clean', especially if your system is
not yet in production.
