How many nodes total are you trying to bring up?  IIRC, you're trying to
add a machine (a laptop) to an existing cluster?  If the install won't
work, then you will need to try a new kernel in either method listed below
(or in the FAQ item).  If it still won't install, you'll need to try a new
interface, but I think a new kernel, built with support for your adapter,
will work.

If you're having problems other than the installation of the one node due
to its funky net interface, let me know.  You mention the install_server
script... but it shouldn't be causing problems unless there's a problem on
the server.  The install_server script (from a quick glance) doesn't try
to use rsync, but does set up the rsyncd.conf and starts the service
(IIRC).
