Hi,
Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I could not find a
specific answer in the archive.
Two specific issues with network booting:
a) autoinstall floppy disk appears to fail to detect NIC
b) network boot - find DHCP but fails with pxelinux.0: not a valid image.
Details:
I have installed Oscar 1.4 onto RedHat 7.3 - the installation was very easy
- prepare system worked correctly, build image finished successfully, I
defined a 4 compute node cluster where the compute nodes start at
192.168.0.1 and the world node is 192.168.0.254.
Initially I just tried creating an Autoinstall floppy, but this fails to
find the NIC apparently, on watching the floppy loading I see "3c59x.c
Donald Becker" mentioned, but no mention of SIS900 and DHCPDiscover tries
"lo" only. So I assume that the kernel is not configured for a SIS900, is
this correct? I could not find a specification for which NICs are
supported. The boot terminates with the message "I couldn't configure the
network interface using DHCP".
Not having compiled a Linux Kernel before I decided to try to network boot
instead, so I created an etherboot flopy disk for sis900 boards with bootp
enabled, having setup Oscar's dhcp to allow network boot with static -
dhcp. The pxe network boot correctly gets an ip address - and responds
with the messages below:
Searching for Server (BOOTP)...
.Me 192.168.0.1, Server 192.168.0.254, Gateway 192.169.0.254
Loading 192.168.0.254:pxelinux.0 ..error: not a valid image
Unable to load file
Why has this failed? How do I rectify this problem.
I would be most grateful if somebody could tell me how to solve either of
these problems, as then I will be able to complete building my cluster.
Thanks, Simon
