You could just install over the installation in /opt. However, it is also possible to install another version of MPICH (and put it just about anywhere you want). The only chance that I'm aware of is setting prefix to /opt/mpich instead of the default. Yes, it needs to be installed on all the nodes. You can do this in a couple of ways. putting it in /home will certainly work. You could also build an RPM and push the RPM out to all the nodes using the cpush / cexec tools. > 4) Can I use switcher to change to my version of mpich? If you look in /opt/switcher (I believe - I'm away from a OSCAR cluster right now), you should see a file for LAM and MPICH. It should be pretty straight-forward to add another MPI (so you could pick either Portland-compiled MPICH or GNU-compiled MPICH). If you have any questions about any of this, let me know.
