I don't know if it's still an issue or not, but I've had trouble in the past using SCSI disks for vmware SIS clients... sticking with IDE has worked well for me.

Vmware defaults to using SCSI disks.  You can either change this to IDE
in the setup for your disks (which is what I do), or you can change the
partition table that OSCAR uses to use SCSI disks.
