It is possible to install X (and Gnome or whatever window manager you want) on the clients. You will need a customized rpmlist (or you can install the packages some other way). The most difficult part is getting X to work properly on the nodes, since the SIS tools do not do video detection and setup during client installation. You may have luck copying configuration files over to the clients, but from my experience, this is not very straight forward. With only 4 nodes to worry about, doing the manual installation would probably be least error-prone (and take the least amount of time). If you would like to install software after the cluster is installed, I would recommend using the autoupdate package, which can install packages (rpms) on the clients and handles dependencies.

Thus, everything must go right. My customer needs RH 7.3 plus X window (Gnome or KDE), Latex, XPDF, Samba and a "cluster manager". There are only 4 Dual Xeon 2.4/1GB RAM/40 GB Disk nodes. All nodes have both CD and floppy drives. What option you think is the best one: 1 - Try installing Oscar with a full package list. (I got it by using "ls -la >> file.txt" and editing file.txt. 2 - Install every node via CD and, after all, install Oscar. In this case, is it possible (and easy) to configure Oscar ? 3 - Try to find another options ???? Have anyone tried to install any of that non-basic software via Oscar ? Did you have success on that ? Thanks for your help. Roberto ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: The Definitive IT and Networking Event.
