Linus,
        You probably need to make a special kernel, however, before you can do
that you need to know what disk driver you have loaded.  Would you
please try and find this, either by doing a "/sbin/lsmod" or looking at
the output of dmesg (also written in /var/log/messages) for the same
hardware running RH9.  (I'm assuming that your server node is the same
hardware as the compute/client nodes).
