You also might check the website of your motherboard's manifacturer and see if they 
have any updates for the BIOS.  I checked mine when I was having problems with my 
Gigabit cards and discovered that there was a bug fix for an odd problem that I had 
been having where you could not boot or halt a node without a keyboard plugged in.

This sounded like it could be a similar problem.
Its a bit of a long shot though.

You might want to check the RPM list for your client node image to make sure you do 
not have anything related to X server - perhaps Linux failed to boot up because it 
cannot find the video card?
