Abhin, I had the same problem quite recently. The mini kernel has no idea what the sis900 NIC card is. I ended up recompiling the kernel to produce an image that included sis900 (not as a module). You can use the kernel config file provided with the systemimager packages as an input to 'make xconfig' when you recompile the kernel.
You also have to make sure that it is small enough to fit on the boot floppy, which means it has to be less than about 1MB I believe. You then copy this into image into the System Imager directory where the current initrd image resides (Essentially you replace the existing initrd and make boot floppy again).
