Subject: RE: [Oscar-users] What is /boot/efi/efi/.... ?
Thanks, Bernard and Fernando, finally got it worked out.
Just sharing my experience, hope it could benefit others.
Most of The "README for OSCAR 4.0 for EL 3 AS" (same as
section 3.5 in installation guide) seems unnessary on i386,
maybe it's only intend for
ia64 which I don't know.
Step 1: when you copy all RedHat EL-AS-3 rpms to
/tftpboot/rpm, it actually already copy the mysql-server, no
need to do this step.
Step 2: I modified
/opt/oscar/ocarsample/redhat-3as-i386.rpmlist, removed lilo,
ADDED grub (since lilo just won't work on my install, and
grub is not in there by default!)
Skipped Step 3, 4, 5, 6, 8
Follow Step 7
Then everything turns out fine.
My configuration:
AMD Athlon dual processor, i386 arch, 1GB mem, ide disk, fast
ethernet, using RedHat EL AS 3 update 3.
Happy new year!

Chen

Hi Chen:
If you want to use grub exclusively, you can remove the
lilo rpm from
your image:
% chroot /var/lib/systemimager/images/oscarimage
% rpm -e lilo
% exit
You will then need to re-image your node.
You can also modify the rpmlist if you want to just create
a new image
(take out lilo from the list).
Cheers,
Bernard

Thanks Bernard,
Sorry didn't give enough informations.
I am using EL-AS-3, update 3 on 2.4 kernel with dual AMD
processors
on
i386 arch with 1GB memory.
I just tried everything from scratch, I ignored the
elilo.conf part,
followed everything else (changed INITRD line accordingly in
systemconfig.conf), but it gave another kernel panic, lots
of ext3.o
errors, says can't resovle symbls ......, insmod failed ...
I am tring using ext2 now, see what happens.
Also, is it possible to use grub instead of using lilo, where do I
make the change, I read Jay said just remove the lilo rpm from
/tftpboot, is that the way, if it fails again, I might try that.
Thanks in advance!
Chen

Hi Chen:
Which update version of RHEL3 are you using? Update 2 or 3?
Also, are you running 2.4 kernel or 2.6 kernel?
Thanks,
Bernard

Thanks, Fernando
That's what I thought after searching the web, I am using
i386. But
if I ignore this, my client will boot to a "kernel panic,
pass option
to init"
error, so I thought this matters.
I will rerun everything again today, maybe I missed something
somewhere.

Chen

Hello Chen,
can you tell us which architecture you are working
on, i386 or ia64?
I'm not one hundred percent sure of this, but I think that
those notes
you are talking about (section 3 of README.RH3AS.txt) are
specific for ia64...
Can anyone else on the list confirm this?

Fernando

Hi, everybody,
When following the instruction of Oscar4.0 on RedHat
EL-AS-3, for the
"initrd and elilo.conf" section, I couldn't find any
directory under
/boot called "efi", how do I proceed?
Thanks!
