You might want to look into systemimager's "Golden Image" functionality. Its not in the oscar interface (yet?) but its part of the package that oscar uses for creating the node images.
So you would install the head node as usual, go up through installing the server packages, quit out of the interface. Install a compute node from scratch using whatever package set you want, use the systemimager tools to make a "Golden Image" on the headnode, and then use that for your oscar nodes instead of the one oscar builds itself. You might have to do some database hacking to let the oscar wizard know the golden image is there. I am not sure, I have never actually done this, but it should certainly be possible to get up to the last step without too much trouble.
