Hi Daniel:

The version of SystemImager which will come with OSCAR 5.0 has a functionality called UseYourOwnKernel which should do what you want.  It is described here:

As to your question about gcc-Library, presuming it's a rpm, you can just install it directly to the image, either using yum(e) or rpm.  With rpm, use the -r argument and with yum(e) use the --installroot option and point it to /var/lib/systemimager/images/<image name>.  (yum(e) is only available in OSCAR 5.0)

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: Re: [Oscar-users] Install Oscar on CentOS 4.3

Hi Bernard:

We have a problem with the network install of the nodes.

I installed the vendor-driver (sii3114.ko) of the onboard-Raid1 (Tyan S2881) within the installation of CentOS 4.1 on the masternode.

Because the open-source driver (sil_sata.ko) which is coming with the installation is only an non-RAID-driver. All is functionally on the master.

But when I get the image to the nodes, the RAID1 is detected as two harddisks because its using the standard open source driver.

Is there a way that the node can take the vendor driver before writing the image?

How can I get the gcc-Library (for example) in the image ?

Thank you

Daniel Vogel

Hi Daniel:

On the headnode, it doesn't really matter when you install those C/C++ compilers.  If you do plan to push these out to the compute nodes, then you should install it to the image (/var/lib/systemimager/images/<image name>) prior to deploying it - it just makes life a tad easier.

We are still working on OSCAR 5.0 and it will be out when it is ready <grin>.  If you are comfortable with Linux and don't mind figuring stuff out, then you can also try out development code.  We have nightly tarballs available here:

http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/filebrowser/49/trunk

Please make sure you read the README before continuing.

(I do not understand your last question BTW)

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: [Oscar-users] Install Oscar on CentOS 4.3

Hi all,

we have to install OSCAR on an cluster with CentOS 64Bit Kernel 2.6 and a lot of

Compilers (9x Nodes with two AMD Opteron 252)

Can I install the C and C++ Compiler on the Master-Node before creating the image or after installing OSCAR

Is there an new version of OSCAR out (5.0) and is there something we have to attend within the installation ?

Thank you

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Daniel Vogel
