Unfortunately I am not very familiar with Madrivia. You might want to check
these release notes and see if you have all of these "package sets"
installed.

http://svn.oscar.openclustergroup.org/wiki/oscar:5.0:install_guide:ch2.5.1_mandrivia_2006

Also, check the list of services and see if there is one called "pfilter"
installed. It is supposed to be turned off by default in 5.0, but perhaps
it is not. If it is on, the "setup network boot" button should make it so

Have you tried switching the cables of your "inside" and "outside" network
cards to make sure that you don't have the wrong one firewalled? If you
can't ping from the node to the server, that indicates there is some sort of
firewall between the two machines... somewhere...

Also, are you sure you don't have a managed switch? Some of the managed
switches have DHCP servers, firewalls, and all sorts of other exciting
things that make life very complicated on them.

Hi.
I tried network booting the client after clicking on the "Setup Network
Boot" botton. I did not work.

According to me the firewall on the server node has been always turned
off. This is the way I did it: I opened the "Mandriva Linux Control Center"
and went to "Security" and finally click on the only option I had "Set up a
personal firewall in order....". Here, I chose no firewall and selected the
network card connected to the cluster.

However, there is something wrong with the connectivity. I can ping the
client node from the server but I cannot ping the server from the client. Do
you think this reveals part of the problem?

I am working on your other suggestions, but I have to confess, most of
these networking stuff is completely new for me. Maybe I could start
checking the connection with the packet sniffer but I do not how to do
it!!!. Perhaps you can direct me to some place in the internet where I can
get the precise information about it.

That changes some of the settings on the DHCP server so that it will send
out client images.

Is the firewall on the server node turned off?

Unfortunately the oscarinstall.log files don't usually help with
networking problems...

Check /var/log/messages and any other networking based logs to see if
there are any reported errors. Otherwise you are probably going to have to
break out a packet sniffer to see if any traffic is going through.

It could also be a driver issue, I had a 3Com card a while back which had
a bad UDP driver and had this sort of problem. You might try checking the
mfg and seeing if they have an updated driver or if there are reports on the
net about problems with UDP.

Also, if you have a managed switch you might want to check and make sure
it is allowing all traffic on 192.168.0.* (udp and tcp)
