If you have a CD (or a floppy drive, don't remember which is in 4.1) on the nodes you can avoid the problem by making an OSCAR boot disk and using that instead of setting the BIOS to network boot.
There is also a trick where you can remove the boot sector of the node you want to reimage and reboot it. The network booting is usually after the local disk in the boot order so it fails to boot off the hard disk and then network boots... this trick is detailed here: http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/faq.installation.re-image-nodes This totally fails to answer your question, but I hope might meet your immediate needs.
