Ok.

I did not find the libaio package in my distribution what I found was this:

"libao2-0.8.5-4mdk.i586.rpm"

Is this the same package you were referring to?

Regarding the use of a fully qualified hostname (marsu.oscardomain in my case). I did that and then I ran the oscar installation program again, but step 8 still cannot be completed. Should I uninstall oscar first, before running the command "./install_cluster eth1"?.

thanks.

It also appears you are missing the libaio package which is a prerequisite and is probably on the distribution CDs (and therefore probably in your /tftpboot directory already). This has been popping up a fair bit lately, so I am not sure why we didn't see it in beta testing. You may be using a different setup than the testers for Mandrivia. We should probably post the testing matrix, including distro and used package sets where applicable.

OSCAR requires a fully qualified domain name for the head node (which it then uses to name the rest of the nodes). It does not have to be a "real" domain name as long as you are on a local subnet, where the names are not important to anyone else. What I usually do is use oscarhead.oscardomain for example, which isn't "legal" but satisfies OSCAR. You can make it the domain for your university as well, whatever you like. Like I said, it is only for your local DNS on your cluster anyway, so it shouldn't cause anyone else any problems.

So in your case you would need defined (at the lest in /etc/hosts, probably could do this with "hostname" also)

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
192.168.0.1 marsu marsu.oscardomain

Then oscar would add the later nodes as

192.168.0.2 oscarnode01.oscardomain

I am not certain where the problem comes in when you do not have the domain name, but I know that has been in the docs for a long time, so I assume it breaks something if it is not there :)

Hi

I logged in the client node as root. Both the loopback device and the network adapter (eth0) are active.

I am sending a "gzipped" file of the installation log. I just have one since I started over from the installation of the mandriva in the server.

Anywau, there is one detail I am not completely confident about. It is related to the hosts definitions. Before I started the OSCAR installation I defined the host name using the command "Hostname" as root. But, I did not specify any hostname during the configuration of the network interfaces. After, OSCAR was installed, I got these hostnames:

IP address Hostname
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.1 marsu (this is the name I specify with the hostname command) 192.168.0.2 oscarnode01.oscardomain (this was specified be the OSCAR installation program)

regards.

You can try to log in, but only root will probably work. You don't need to log into the client nodes to complete setup, I was just not sure where you were exactly.

You could log in to the node and check to see that the network card is set up properly (using "ifconfig"). I suspect that only the loopback device will be active and not "eth0" (or whichever adapter you chose when you ran "oscar_install").

If this is not the case, please go into your oscar install directory (probably /opt/oscar) and do:

tar czvf logs.tgz oscar_install.*

and send the zip file that makes.

Hello.

Yes, I wanted mandriva 2006 on the client node and I think that is what I got. After the image was installed the client rebooted itself and I got the following in its screen:

"Mandriva Linux release 2006.0 (Official) for i586
Kernel 2.6.12-12mdksmp on a Dual-processor i686 / tty1
oscarnode01 login: "

Should I login in the client node?. which login name should I use?.

Thanks!

I hope you want mandrivia 2006 on the client node when you are finished and not windows xp.

Did the client node get imaged, and then boot successfully to a mandrivia text login prompt? If the client node has not been successfully imaged, and the "Complete Cluster Setup" step run, then the tests will not succeed.

If this sounds familiar, please attach any oscarinstall.log files in your /opt/oscar directory, preferably compressed.

Hello.

I am trying to use OSCAR 5.0 with Mandriva 2006 in order to cluster two computers. The server node has Mandriva 2006 installed whereas the client has windows XP. I managed to run the cluster installation program until to step 7, "Complete Cluster Setup", without any apparent problem. However, it was not possible to complete step 8, "Test Cluster Setup". This is the output I got:

" "
Performing root tests...
 Maui service check:maui [PASSED]
TORQUE node check [PASSED]
TORQUE service check:pbs_server [PASSED]
/home mounts 1 nodes failed [FAILED]

Preparing user tests...
Performing user tests...
SSH ping test [PASSED] SSH server -- node [EMAIL PROTECTED]
e01.oscardomain's password:

" "

So, besides the "FAILED" message in line 5 of the output, I was asked for a password (last line). I have not idea which password I should use. Moreover, during the installation of OSCAR you are not required to use any password!.

Could somebody tell me what the problem might be?
