I have been sniffing around and it appears that when it hangs the script
hasn't created the tables in the oscar database. Does this seem like a
normal situation or should the db have tables at this point in the
install?

boots ...
chkconfig mysqld on
Creating the OSCAR database ...
Enter password: ... OSCAR database successfully created.
Searching these directories for packages:
/opt/oscar/packages
/var/lib/oscar/packages <----------------this is where it hangs
