Hi Rob,

Well, this is really odd that you have this kind of mess on your OSCAR 
installation.
Most strangely, you had to change /etc/rpm/platform manually. We have never 
encountered this kind of problems on OSCAR 5.0 + FC5-X86 and we have seen that 
many people tested this on many different servers with OSCAR5.0 + FC5 and they 
were just fine.

The database issue should not happen there too.

Like I said, I am just wondering if your test machine for the head node is not 
normal and is not in a fresh installation status.

If you don't mind, can you please try to test it on any other machines by newly 
installing FC5?
BTW, what kernel do you use on your test machine which has run into this kind 
of mess?

Maybe starting from the scratch would save your whole time.
