Hi Chris,
Just to save you time intead of reformatting etc ..
Go to /opt/oscar/scripts and type ./start_over
Then it will uninstall oscar and logout and log in
If you log in as a user type su - to get to the root prompt for oscar
Also start an xterm and now go to /opt/oscar/ and type ./install_cluster eth0 or ethx where x is the number of your eth card in fc9 Also i have not tried padding so there may be a bug there that you have discovered so file a bug report! If you want the first node to be called wulnode000 that is fine. You can do that
To call the other 15 nodes wulfnode001, wulfnode002 ...
In the Create clients menu backspace over oscarnode and type wulfnode00
Leave padding alone since there may be a bug in that script if you want to get your cluster working the way you do. For the next node in that menu in that create clients dialog box type 1 and remember to set all your IP's correctly That is if your master node wulfnode000 is of ip 192.168.1.1 then that is your dhcp server and use the next address in the menu for for wlufnode001,wulfnode002 etc that is 192.168.1.2 and the script will automatically assign wulnode002 with ip 192.168.1.3 and so on with one-one correspondence between ip's and number of remaining nodes. Also you will have to yum the latest kernel in and use UYOK highlighted with the red square radio button on and click on the clickable menu item to build your own boot kernel for your cluster that is option UYOK.
Also click dhcp etc when your imaging your clients.
Tell me how it goes...

PS When I fix my bug i create several more... My bugs are pregnant ...

Thanks, Allan.

Did not use trailing spaces (this was absolutely confirmed today) - the script invented one for the first of my nodes (but not for the other 15, another hint). Could not delete with the Delete Client (otherwise I would not be writing ;) - there were many errors, but they're real; subsequent checks in the MySQL database ibdata1 (strings ibdata1| grep wulfnode), or simply looking at what clients were still defined through the GUI itself, indicates that in fact a client name that gets a space in it cannot be removed. The scripts choke trying to do so.

I'm guessing it was my selecting a non-default (non-"0") padding
that allowed a goof by the script - there would be no attempt to
insert anything between node number and base name, otherwise, and
as you indicate, you didn't use padding, and evidently it works
fine for you. (I;m also guessing it would do exactly the same thing with the dafault "oscarnode" Base Name, with a non-default "padding". Hence, padding is evil here)

I can get to this point from a freshly-formatted disk in about three hours. Perhaps I'll pave one more time if nobody has a quick fix.

thanks,
Chris

Building a 16-node cluster from Intel quad-cores on Fedora 9.

*Almost* there. I've now rebuilt this whole box (from OS up) several
times, knowing what to expect, and can now get to the install GUI w/
o any
issues first crack. As Allan M. noted previously, the GUI's Step 1:
is
broken under Fedora 9 x86_64, but clicking on steps 2-4 procedes w/o
issue
and all packages I want (OpenMPI, mpich, etc) get installed, images
get
made, etc., so I'm happy.

Until Step 5, "Creating Clients"

My first time through this actually looked fine (I imported MACs
from a
file I set up, assigned them accordingly, etc). And then I noticed
something that seemed to be causing errors. I thought I'd typed a
trailing space for my selected "Base Name" in Step 4. No, I didn't.

This cluster is called "wulf" (actually, this is the name on the
public
NIC. The cluster master is "wulf000", which I've temporarily set as
hostname for the install, commenting-out the public name from /etc/
hosts).
Hence, I'd like to use "wulfnode" instead of "oscarnode" for node
names -
just because I could change this. Given the option of specifying a
"padding", I specified "2" which is supposed to produce names like
"wulfnode001, wulfnode002...", according to the Help button.

In fact, what it does is create entries for "wulfnode 1, wulfnode2,
wulfnode3... wulfnode16". Note the (ILLEGAL) space in the first name.
Delete all the created nodes using the delete client nodes option.it
may come up with errors but will delete them
Then click on setup client nodes again. And instead of oscarnode type
wulfnode00 WITH NO trailing spaces!
Then on the start with try 1 this way you. Do not have to use any
padding
I did not use padding and justvcalled my head node x1 and the rest x2 ..
Etc..

This is a REAL problem. This space makes it impossible to remove this
client (half the system packages that deal with hostnames will
interpret
this as a host "wulfnode" and a host "1", and bail on either).
MySQL and
SIS databases are used to store everything, and these can only be
rewritten by the respective apps - I can't remove anything by hand. I
strongly suspect this illegal space in a node hostname also breaks the
final steps to finishing the cluster setup.

SO, my question: how can I fix this illegal nodename specification,
quickly/easily?

Thanks in advance
Chris
