I tried OSCAR 5 on centos 4.7 , and i had same problem as urs , here is what
i did:
on head node , i just copy /etc/modprobe.conf to
/var/lib/systemimager/images/<image_name>/etc/   and after that i boot
client node again and install image file via network boot on it , after that
the kernel panic problem didnt showed up...
So maybe this solution work for u too.
P.S: We dont use Raid , so it's chance that this solution wont work for u.
