Jan,

If you have oscar-6.x, you should have a /etc/oscar/VERSION file.
if you have oscar < 6.0.x, you should have a /opt/oscar/VERSION file (i think), 
which can tell you exactly which version is installed.

Once you located the VERSION file, you can simply run "get-oscar-version.sh 
/etc/oscar/VERSION"
